Summary
Promising explorations of the foods we encounter travelling, Portable Foods was selected as the topic for the 2022 Oxford Symposium on Food, the year in which symposiasts could after a two year hiatus gather for discussion and enjoyment. Fascinated by the meals possible on rolling trains and zooming jets, the symposium included analyses of the history and culture of dining in mobile spaces. Containing papers on diverse topics, including on luxury and historical imperialism, the food served in twentieth-century Dutch airplanes, and safe guarding with gender differences in twenty-first-century Indian train compartments, the studies encompassed all kinds of travel foods, both of exploration and nomadic life, from pemmican and penguin meat to achar and qurut.

Summary
Australia has a secret addiction. Forget the healthy eating campaigns, celebrity chefs and the growth in farmers markets, as a nation we are increasingly hooked on convenience foods. For many, ready-to-go meals are the basis of their entire diet. With their high fat and salt levels this is bad news for our health. It?s also de-skilling an entire generation. For the manufacturers however it?s a license to print money. Featuring input from dieticians, real families and manufacturers, this is a balanced and comprehensive examination of the way our diet is being shaped today. (From website)

Summary
Food in Britain today is more plentiful, more nutritious, more varied, and much more affordable than ever in our history. This is something to celebrate, and Rob Lyons does exactly that. In a series of short up-beat chapters he challenges head on the fashionable critics of so-called junk food and the "wacky world" of organic and locally-sourced food campaigners. They have created needless panic and made our cheap and tasty food an object of shame and blame, when it should be a cause for rejo ...
