Summary
Australia has come a long way since its anti-migrant 'White Australia Policy'. The history of multiculturalism in Australia is an interesting journey that has not been without its controversies. This Australian made, curriculum fit programme explores the growth of multiculturalism in Australia from the racist policies of the early 1900s through to WWII developments that ultimately led to the current multicultural society that Australia enjoys. We see how multiculturalism has progressed since its initial stages while highlighting the many challenges to the ideals of multiculturalism within contemporary issues such as terrorism, detention centres and refugees.

Summary
Debates about multiculturalism and related issues are full of ironies and contradictions. Australia is the world's most successful multicultural nation, with very few obvious tensions; opinion polls have shown widespread support for high migration when the level is already high, and lack of support when the level is already low; the opponents themselves can only trace their Australian ancestry to a few generations, and much of the hostiliity is based on racism as evidenced by the concurrent attacks on Aborigines. In this program both sides of the debate are explored.

Summary
The most meaningful support for multiculturalism has come from intellectuals, such as those represented in this book, who have discovered greater meaning about our American past by incorporating concepts driving multiculturalism. These essays engage the word and its meanings, as varied as they are, in an effort to add and expand on the dialogue for this every-increasingly vital concept. Each essay generally makes use of multiculturalism as a way of examining history and social themes, while providing a broader and perhaps a deeper view of 19th-century American life and thought.

Summary
The debates over these issues are full of ironies and contradictions. We are the world's most successful multicultural nation, with very few obvious tensions; opinion polls have shown widespread support for high migration when the level is already high, and lack of support when the level is already (as it currently) low; the opponents themselves can only trace their Australian ancestry to a few generations, and much of the hostility is based on racism as evidenced by the concurrent attacks on Aborigines. In this program, we explore the issues with the help of people on both sides of the debate.

Summary
"Multiculturalism--the belief that no culture is better or worse than any other; it is merely different--has come to dominate Western intellectual thought and to serve as a guide to domestic and foreign policy and development aid. But what if multiculturalism itself is flawed? What if some cultures are more prone to progress than others and more successful at creating the cultural capital that encourages democratic governance, social justice for all, and the elimination of poverty? In Jews, Confucians, and Protestants: Cultural Capital and the End of Multiculturalism, Lawrence E. Harrison takes the politically incorrect stand that all cultures are not created equal. Analyzing the performance of 117 countries, grouped by predominant religion, Harrison argues for the superiority of those cultures that emphasize Jewish, Confucian, and Protestant values. A concluding chapter outlines ways in which cultural change may substantially transform societies within a generation."--Publisher's website.
