Summary
"No official statistics are kept for the number of hospital patients, in particular older people, who are subjected to neglect and abuse. That is, left malnourished and dehydrated, in pain, allowed to develop agonising and fatal pressure sores, not taken to the toilet, left to lie in their own bodily waste, cared for in a filthy environment and at risk of infection, ignored, allowed to fall over repeatedly, not spoken to, left naked or dressed in other patients' clothes - and discharged from hospital prematurely. This book bears witness to all these practices and more."--Page 4 of cover.

Summary
Pain is something we all experience and is something that many people fear, especially as they grow older. Long term experiences of pain may well become increasingly common as we head towards an ageing society beset with multiple chronic diseases. It is therefore imperative that medical professionals understand the implications of pain and incorporate appropriate actions to assess and deal with pain into their patient care. This programme considers all of these issues and looks broadly at pain management in the elderly. Three pain management experts share their insights with us, examining what pain is, assessment methods and common treatments available.

Summary
This book introduces the clinical concept of analytic contact. This is a term that describes the therapeutic method of investigation that makes up psychoanalytic treatment. The field has been in debate for decades regarding what constitutes psychoanalysis. This usually centers on theoretical ideals regarding analyzability, goals, or procedure and external criteria such as frequency or use of couch. Instead, the concept of analytic contact looks at what takes place with a patient in the clinical situation. Each chapter in this book follows a wide spectrum of cases and clinical situations where.

Summary
Until recently, patient feedback has not had a very high profile in clinical practice. There has been no tradition of systematically gathering and tracking patient feedback over time - let alone using the findings to continually review and improve services. Why is it so vital to gather patient feedback? The fact is that involving patients leads to better treatment adherence and more effective healthcare; and better healthcare means increased health benefits for patients and reduced expenditure for national health systems. This landmark publication explores ideas related to patient feedback and care, and offers effective methods of measuring, analysing and utilising feedback. Such approaches can lead to continual small improvements that cumulatively add up to major long-term transformation in healthcare systems. In clinical settings where staff members are already dealing with many different screening and checking systems, employing these techniques may seem like an additional burden. However, it has been found that implementing a good patient feedback system actually helps to streamline services. Furthermore, patient feedback will increasingly be used by NHS healthcare commissioners for reimbursement purposes. This is already happening in the USA and it is being proposed in the UK. Quite simply, Better Patient Feedback, Better Healthcare is required reading for any healthcare professional or administrator wanting to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of patient care offered by their service.
