Summary
This volume contains the selected contributed papers from the BIOMAT 2009 - Ninth International Symposium on Mathematical and Computational Biology and the contributions of the Keynote Speakers which present the state of the art of fundamental topics of interdisciplinary science to research groups and interested individuals on the mathematical modelling of biological phenomena. New results are presented on cells, particularly their growth rate and fractal behavior of colony contours; on control mechanisms of molecular systems; the Monte-Carlo simulation of protein models; and on fractal and nonlinear analysis of biochemical time series. There are also new results on population dynamics, such as the paleodemography of New Zealand and a comprehensive review on complex food webs. Contributions on computational biology include the use of graph partitioning to analyse biological networks and graph theory in chemosystematics. The studies of infectious diseases include the dynamics of reinfection of Tuberculosis; the spread of HIV infection in the immune system and the real-time forecasting of an Influenza pandemic in the UK. New contributions to the field of modelling of physiological disorders include the study of macrophages and tumours and the influence of microenvironment on tumour cells proliferation and migration.

Summary
The fear of death may translate into the desire for longevity. However, longevity is a true blessing only if it is coupled with good health. Healthiness, in today's expectation, is not simply a disease free state. Rather, it is very much a state of wellbeing and competence, both physically and socially. While Oriental medicine emphasizes on the promotion of physiological balance and internal balance as an integral requirement for longevity, other cultures also have various sophisticated concepts and orientations. This book successfully collates all the different views and approaches from Austria, Russia, China and Japan in the exploration of health, wellbeing, competence and aging.

Summary
The orientation and physical context of the CMT Series of Workshops have always been cross-disciplinary, but with an emphasis placed on the common concerns of theorists applying many-particle concepts in diverse areas of physics. In this spirit, CMT33 chose to focus special attention on exotic fermionic and bosonic systems, quantum magnets and their quantum and thermal phase transitions, novel condensed matter systems for renewable energy sources, the physics of nanosystems and nanotechnology, applications of molecular dynamics as well as density functional theory.

Summary
"In this book, case studies and reviews confirm the adaptive nature of infanticide in males in primates and other animals, and help to predict which species should be vulnerable to it. Much of the book is devoted to exploring the evolutionary consequences of the threat of infanticide by males for social and reproductive behavior and physiology. Written for graduate students and researchers in animal behavior, behavioral ecology, biological anthropology and social psychology, this book shows that social systems are shaped not only be ecological pressures but also by social pressures such as infanticide risk."--Jacket.
