Changes in international relations resulting from the economic crisis of the past decade prompted publication of this third edition (2nd ed., CH, May'08, 45-5101). The 15 scholars contributing to this work are specialists in the study of international negotiations, current and former government officials, and private sector individuals with firsthand experience in economic diplomacy. The chapters reflect the backgrounds and interest of their respective authors, with some oriented to the theoretical aspects of economic diplomatic relations and others concerned with specific issues of international trade, finance, and climate change. Editors Bayne and Woolcock (both, London School of Economics and Political Science, UK) contribute eight mainly theoretically chapters. Other chapters serve as case studies supporting the theoretical constructions. Researchers investigating specific topics may find insights of particular interest in those chapters written by practitioners and dealing with such topics as the impact of domestic decision making on international negotiations; US strengths and weaknesses in its economic relationships with Asia; and the roles of multilateral organizations such as the G8, the G20, nongovernmental organizations, the European Union, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Trade Organization, and the International Monetary Fund.
