This book is not the standard dictionary or glossary one expects to find in any discipline. The Engineering Language is a very different kind of dictionary, written specifically for engineers. It features not only technical engineering terms, but also terms that are often included in contracts. Many people, assuming that everyone defines words and acronyms in the same way, may get lulled into a false sense of security or complacency when communicating with coworkers, peers, or through legal contracts. As this book indicates, varying understandings of definitions in documents and drawings can result in wasted time, effort, resources, and money. Each party in a contract needs to interpret a given term in the same way for the optimum success of the contract. If people would take the time to use this book when constructing and reviewing important documents, contracts, or specifications, they potentially could make the best use of their resources.
