This volume brings together primary data from a variety of primate species living in both natural habitats and experimental settings, and explores the variables that may play a role in primates' behavioral strategies. Lynne E. Miller is head of the program in anthropology at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California. For over ten years, she has studied the behavior and ecology of a population of wedge-capped capuchin monkeys in Venezuela. She also chairs the Education Committee of the American Society of Primatologists and is an active member of the International Primatological Society

Editor Miller has compiled the very latest research on predator-sensitive foraging in primates, a much-neglected topic in primatology that has only recently come to the forefront of investigation. Miller provides an excellent introduction to predator-sensitive foraging at the beginning of the volume, followed by 15 chapters (with one exception) that focus on specific primates. Represented are studies of predator-sensitive foraging in a wide range of primate taxa, including both nocturnal and diurnal strepsirhines, callitrichids, cebids, atelids, langurs, baboons, guenons, and gibbons. Chapters are partitioned into three sections: "Biological Variables," "Social Variables," and "Environmental Variables," but there are many links between sections as they all necessarily take multiple variables into account in their analyses. Although this topic is fairly specific within primatology, it treats important issues that should not be ignored in analyses of the behavior and ecology of wild primates.
