Summary
A food revolution is taking place...
Coffee tables are replacing dining tables as the new focus for eating and entertaining. The most imaginative home cooks are now offering guests starters alone, dismissing large cuts of meat or fish in favour of diminutive but beguiling bites.
Jennifer Joyce is one of the first cooks to recognize this lifestyle trend, and her book Small Bites is the first to bring together tapas, mezze, anti-pasti and Asian street fare that can be enjoyed, in an informal style of eating and entertaining.
Contemporary, no-fuss food is laid out clearly, with hints on advance preparation and short-cuts, alongside suggestions for serving styles, dishes and drinks that work well together.

Publisher's Weekly Review
Sometimes a party calls for chips, dip and beer; but sometimes the occasion demands carefully arranged Bresaola and Pear Rolls alongside pitchers of Blood Orange Campari Soda. For the latter, this short collection of party foods (or ?small bites?) offers dozens of intriguing ideas. Sicilian Artichoke Bottoms with Provolone and Capers zing with the brightness of lemon and mint, while Crispy Chorizo Quesadillas with Guacamole are deliciously gooey, a perfect foil for cocktails. Although most of the recipes in this volume are glamorous, they are written carefully enough for even a novice party host to follow. For instance, the subtle Chocolate Frangelico Pudding with Hazelnuts is perfect for a Valentine?s Day feast, and requires approximately ten minutes of foolproof work. Cardamom-Poached Apricots with Mascarpone and Pistachios demands just a bit more time, while lending a delicious Mideastern flair to a summer gathering. Best of all, the author knows that even hosts with the best intentions can run out of time before a party, so she offers a reassuring list of ?buy and arrange ideas? such as Marinated Anchovies and Pan-Friend Padron Peppers. With so many appealing choices, each gorgeously photographed, this cookbook itself is an excuse to throw a party. (Nov.) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
Library Journal Review
Joyce, a London-based American food writer and cooking teacher, is the coauthor of Diva Cooking: Unashamedly Glamorous Party Food. Here she presents sophisticated recipes for delectable tidbits (some are finger food, but others do require a fork or spoon) perfectly suited to entertaining, whether for a casual get-together or an elegant meal. The recipes are organized into chapters, such as "Fried" or "Skewers," or by main ingredient, and each offers suggestions for several complementary recipes to serve alongside, as well as a few simpler dishes, described as "Buy and Arrange"-though most of these require a bit more than just setting out a plate of store-bought olives or charcuterie. There are also six full-scale menus (e.g., "Bollywood Nights"), each of which provides ideas for tableware and color schemes, a game plan, and a recipe for a special party drink. The individual recipes include prep times and useful make-ahead guidelines. All of the recipes are shown in mouth-watering full-color photographs, and the striking design adds to the appeal of the book. Strongly recommended. (c) Copyright 2010.
