Summary
This book presents a collection of contributions from the 'International School of Physics' "Enrico Fermi", held in Varenna, Italy in July 2008. This is the second school devoted to the astrophysics of galaxy clusters, and comes four years after the first; 'Background Microwave Radiation and Intra-cluster Cosmology'. The motivation for this second school was provided by the significant expansion in research into these, the largest gravitationally bound systems, and by the great interest in multifaceted observational, theoretical and numerical simulations of clusters. Topics were deal.

Summary
Decisions regarding the risks involved in medical treatments must belong to patients and their physicians - after all, it is the patient's health and life which is at stake. But patients will not be equipped for this decision-making process if they cannot be given some idea as to the risks and benefits of treatment. Such risks are generally estimated by a consensus panel of specialist physicians using supporting medical literature. Unfortunately, this literature does not always provide a good estimate of risk, particularly in the case of rare occurrences. This book demonstrates statistical tec.

Summary
With the exception of positron emission tomography (PET), the field of low energy positron science produces relatively few academic articles each year compared to more accessible fields. Though much has been achieved since the publication of two related volumes earlier in this series: Positron Solid State Physics (1981) and Positron Spectroscopy of Solids (1993), only the first steps have been made towards 'physics with many positrons': physical situations where the interactions of positrons with positrons can be observed. This 2009 "Enrico Fermi School" aims to stimulate the field o.

Summary
High energy physics (HEP) has a crucial role in the context of fundamental physics. HEP experiments make use of a massive array of sophisticated detectors to analyze the particles produced in high-energy scattering events. This book contains the papers from the workshop 'Radiation and Particle Detectors', organized by the International School of Physics, and held in Varenna in July 2009. Its subject is the use of detectors for research in fundamental physics, astro-particle physics and applied physics. Subjects covered include the measurement of: the position and length of ionization trails, t.

Summary
Construction will always be needed, and will always consume resources. In developing an approach for assessing sustainable building, the Three Step Strategy (in the Netherlands named Trias Ecologica) has proven to be useful. This title looks at this Strategy.
