Booklist Review

Starting as a staple of the 1950s, especially for PTA bake sales, cupcakes have experienced a renaissance in the last few years, in part because they are easy to transport and not high in calories. Food stylist Tack and photographer-author Richardson (The Breath of a Wok, 2004) partner for an obviously gleeful and fun-filled endeavor the decorating of cupcakes for almost every conceivable occasion. They choose from a vast array of cupcake accessories, including designables (jelly beans), cuttables (licorice), and rollables (Tootsie Rolls), to name just a few. They also incorporate different techniques for building and dipping as well as 18 cake and frosting recipes. The eye-popping results include Oreo-laden pandas, raspberry-preserve-topped truffles, spaghetti and meatballs, an elegant wedding cake, and Christmas ornaments one could almost hang from a tree.
