What do you want to be when you grow up? It's a loaded question, and every kid's been asked it. Luckily, the Discovering Careers series can help. Each volume breaks down broad career umbrellas into 20 specific subsets and examines them from the vantage point of Education and Training, Outlook, Earnings, and so on. A clean design, sidebars, and the occasional on-the-job action photo add to the appeal. Food moves from the ground (farmers and fishers) to the plate (personal chefs). Although the publisher notes the age range as fourth through ninth grade, the interest factor (How many 10-year-olds are concerned about career outlook ?) definitely skews toward the upper end of the spectrum and beyond. Even so, both younger and older kids will find tempting perhaps before unheard-of career options to get them thinking about down the road.
