Choice Review
Although this anthology of management thought is not inherently unique, what sets it apart from many other similar management books is its organization. Drawing on the ideas of 79 of the world's top management experts, the authors present the material in a concise and structured format. The volume is divided into seven chapters (Leadership, Managing Change, The Learning Organization, Creating High-Performance Organizations through Teamwork, The Pursuit of Market Leadership, Managing and Motivating People, and Business, Work, and Society), each opening with a list of the "gurus" relevant to the topic, and his/her contributions to the area. In addition, the chapters contain exhibits that summarize the contributions of the experts and highlight areas of both agreement and conflict in particular areas of management thought. The authors utilize quick-reference charts, bullet point lists, and end-of-chapter summaries to make the reader aware of key concepts. The organization and structure of this book make it an especially useful reference for professional managers. Recommended for public, academic, and professional library collections. E. Garaventa; College of Staten Island, CUNY
