Janove, an employment-law specialist, presents the Star Profile, a management tool that he developed to tap into employees' spirit and collective intelligence. The intent of the Star Profile is to enhance the relationship between direct reports and their supervisors by describing clearly, in no more than 100 words, what is important about a specific job, creating a visual image that defines what is expected for success in that job, and identifying desired employee actions that can be linked to the goals and objectives of the organization. It defines what is fundamentally important about a job and why it is important but not how to do it, for that is the employee's challenge. The author notes, As markets, industries, technologies, and resulting competitive challenges continue to change, what employees do and how they do it need to change as well.
