This volume represents the first examination of the so-called Generation Y or Millennial Generation's attitudes toward tourism as both travel and choice of profession. This work should be viewed as an initial exploration of a complex topic, that of cohort attitudinal comparisons. The research is presented in a series of largely Australian authored and cited papers, which include both conceptual and applied research. Chapters are organized in three parts: "Gen Y and Tourism," "Gen Y Tourist Behaviour," and "Capitalizing on Gen Y as Consumers and Producers." This compendium is a necessary first step in framing the various issues, but readers should not expect conclusions to the research questions that are posed. Rather, conclusions relate to the validity of cohort-based research, the lack of comparative data for cohort-based research, and an acknowledgment that cultural distinctions and confounding outside variables (e.g., technology) play important if undetermined roles in this area of attitudinal tourism research. The volume serves as a useful introduction to the concept of cohort research and its planning and marketing implications. The contributors, tourism researchers and scholars, hope that this collection will stimulate further discussion and research. Summing Up: Recommended.
