Robin Robertson has written more than twenty cookbooks, including the bestsellers Quick-Fix Vegan, Vegan Planet, Fresh from the Vegan Slow Cooker , and One-Dish Vegan . A longtime vegan and former restaurant chef, she writes the Global Vegan column for VegNews Magazine and has written for Vegetarian Times, Cooking Light, Natural Health, and other magazines. Robertson (Vegan Planet) here focuses on the global cuisines she loves. Recipes are a mix of traditionally vegan, vegan adaptations, and "inspired by" originals. According to Robertson, seasonings are often the distinguishing feature of a regional cuisine, and cooks will need a wide variety of herbs, spices, and condiments-most available at well-stocked large grocery stores-to make many of her recipes. The seasonings sometimes make for long ingredients lists but most recipes are fairly simple to prepare. Each country (organized by region: Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, India, and Asia) features a handful of the author's personal favorites for savory dishes and one dessert; it does not aim to be a comprehensive collection. Helpful extras such as overviews of common ingredients and flavors, pantry advice, menus, gluten- and soy-free notations, and online resources, combined with beautiful photos, makes for easy travelling.
