Resumen
"This volume reviews indigenous ecotourism as a special type of nature-based tourism and examines the key principles of conservation and community benefits from indigenous-owned and operated ecotourism businesses or joint ventures. It compares indigenous ecotourism in developed and developing countries and provides global case studies of indigenous ecotourism projects in the Pacific Islands, Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia. The book analyses key factors and constraints for sustainable development of Indigenous ecotourism and explores the growing links between biodiversity conservation, ecotourism and indigenous rights. It will appeal to practitioners, researchers and students in ecotourism and sustainable tourism, indigenous studies, conservation, natural resource management and community development."--BOOK JACKET.

Resumen
This revision maintains the position of Forest Ecosystems as the one source for the latest information on the advanced methods that have enhanced our understating of forest ecosystems. Further understanding is given to techniques to explore the changes in climatic cycles, the implications of wide-scale pollution, fire and other ecological disturbances that have a global effect. The inclusion of models, equations, graphs, and tabular examples provides readers with a full understanding of the methods and techniques. * Includes a revised section on important advances in regional scale analyses * Features an update to global scale analyses including revised color images * Provides a detailed comparison of predicted vs. observed tree diversity across 65 eco-regions * New companion website includes modeling software exercises and tutorials and video clips.

Resumen
Even before the myth of Prometheus, fire played a crucial ecological role around the world. Numerous plant communities depend on fire to generate species diversity in both time and space. Without fire such ecosystems would become sterile monocultures. Recent efforts to prohibit fire in fire dependent communities have contributed to more intense and more damaging fires. For these reasons, foresters, ecologists, land managers, geographers, and environmental scientists are interested in the behavior and ecological effects of fires. This book will be the first to focus on the chemistry and physics of fire as it relates to the ways in which fire behaves and the impacts it has on ecosystem function. Leading international contributors have been recruited by the editors to prepare a didactic text/reference that will appeal to both advanced students and practicing professionals.

Resumen
The risks posed by forest destruction throughout the world are highly significant for all. Not only are forests a critical source of timber and non-timber forest products, but they provide environmental services that are the basis of life on Earth. However, only rarely do beneficiaries pay for the goods and services they experience, and there are servere consquences as a result for the poor and for the forests themselves.; It has proved difficult to translate the theory of market-based approaches into practice. Based on extensive research and case studies of biodiversity conservation, watershed protected and carbon sequestration, this book demonstrates how payment systems can be establised in practice, their effectiveness and their implications for the poor.
