In the last five decades, the role and importance of quantitative research in tourism has been well understood because of the emerging need for methodological evidence related to theoretical assumptions. Furthermore, the inter-disciplinary characteristics of tourism management enabled tourism researchers to undertake more collective studies with researchers from other disciplines (such as economics, psychology, sociology and biology). With its growing scope of research and complex characteristics, tourism management has become therefore an attractive research field for all researchers.
Format: Electronic Resources
Click here to view book http://angliss.eblib.com.au/patron/FullRecord.aspx?p=862132
Tourism Supply Chain Management [electronic resource]. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:33859 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Song, Haiyan.
Call Number 910.687
Publication Date 2011
Summary Fierce global competition in the tourism industry is now focused on integral parts of supply chains rather than on individual firms. This is a matter of crucial importance for entrepreneurs, governments, and civil society stakeholders, and Knowledge Management in Tourism: Policy and Governance Applications provides these key players with answers and queries, and above all with the strategic tools to understand and act. Academic researchers, preservationists, and other interested parties face a range of challenges for the preservation of the material past as rapid economic and social changes continue in China. On the one hand, state-supported development policies often threaten and in some cases lead to the destruction of archeological and cultural sites. Yet state cultural policies also encourage the cultivation of precisely such sites as tourism development resources. This monograph aims to bring the concepts of world heritage sites, national tourism policies, ethnic tourism, and museum display together for a general cultural heritage audience. It focuses on a central issue: the tensions between a wide range of interest groups: cultural anthropologists and archeologists, tourism officials, heritage proponents, economic development proponents, a new class of private rich with the means to buy artifacts, and a fragmented regulatory system. Behind all of them lies the political role of heritage in China, also addressed in this monograph.
Format: Electronic Resources
Click here to view book http://angliss.eblib.com.au/patron/FullRecord.aspx?p=1082035
Food and beverage management : for the hospitality, tourism and event industries / John Cousins [and 3 others]. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:280254 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Cousins, John, author.
Call Number 647.95068 COU
Publication Date 2016
Summary This fourth edition of the best selling textbook Food & Beverage Management has been updated and revised to take account of current trends within these industries.
Format: Electronic Resources
Events management : for tourism, cultural, business and sporting events / Lynn Van der Wagen and Lauren White. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:30346 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Van der Wagen, Lynn.
Call Number 658.456 VAN
Publication Date 2010
Format: Books
Cultural tourism [electronic resource] : the partnership between tourism and cultural heritage management / Bob McKercher, Hilary du Cros. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:34007 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by McKercher, Bob.
Call Number 338.4791 MCK
Publication Date 2012
Summary Examine cultural tourism issues from both sides of the industry! Was it any wonder that when she won a scholarship for college in the north she never looked back? Now with teenaged children, a successful career and a business-owner husband, the last thing she wants to do is attend to her newly deceased father's affairs. Neither is she anxious to deal with her hostile brother or face those figures from her childhood who could feel nothing but betrayal after her long absence. The journey home unexpectedly becomes more than a facing of bad memories. In that time, five more drugs from this class, atorvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastatin, rosuvastatin and simvastatin, have been approved by the FDA. Statins, among the top ten most commonly prescribed drugs in the U.S., are now recommended as first-line treatments by all major regulatory agencies in the U.S. and elsewhere. As shown in numerous clinical trials, statins are extremely powerful and effective in reducing LDL cholesterol, accompanied by a significant reduction of cardiac events and strokes. As a class, they are well-tolerated by most patients and are easy to administer. However, the withdrawal of cerivastatin (Baycol) from the market in 2001 due to severe myopathy in some patients, has led to increased concern among clinicians with respect to this and other side effects, such as liver and kidney disease. Some studies suggest that this has led to increased reluctance among clinicians to initiate a statin drug regimen or to adjust dosage to increase therapeutic effect. While a small minority of patients do develop serious complications while on statin therapy, current clinical evidence strongly suggests that the benefits of timely statin administration significantly outweigh the risks. Oxford American Pocket Notes: Statin Prescribing Guide aims to provide clinicians with concise, easily accessible guidance on prescribing statins in various clinical settings. This volume features evidence-based discussion on the indications, pharmacokinetics and safety profiles of the available statins and how these properties translate into selection of the appropriate treatment regimen for the individual patient. Useful tools, such as treatment algorithms, charts, tables and illustrations greatly help enhance the value of this volume as a portable reference tool.
Format: Electronic Resources
Achieving Success Through Innovation : Cases and Insights from the Hospitality, Travel, and Tourism Industry / Cathy A. Does everyone agree on a definition? And does that definition hold when considering literary production in other times and places? Sex before Sex makes clear that we cannot simply transfer our contemporary notions of what constitutes a sex act into the past and expect them to be true for the people who were then reading literature and watching plays. The contributors confront how our current critical assumptions about definitions of sex restrict our understanding of representations of sexuality in early modern England. Drawing attention to overlooked forms of sexual activity in early modern culture, from anilingus and interspecies sex to "chin-chucking" and convivial drinking, Sex before Sex offers a multifaceted view of what sex looked like before the term entered history. Through incisive interpretations of a wide range of literary texts, including Romeo and Juliet, The Comedy of Errors, Paradise Lost, the figure of Lucretia, and pornographic poetry, this collection queries what might constitute sex in the absence of a widely accepted definition and how a historicized concept of sex affects the kinds of arguments that can be made about early modern sexualities.Contributors: Holly Dugan, George Washington U; Will Fisher, CUNY-Lehman College; Stephen Guy-Bray, U of British Columbia; Melissa J. Moreover, contracts for passenger transport services and contracts for the provision of accommodation, car rental, catering or leisure services if the contract provides for a specific date or period of performance are not covered by some of these rules. Yet measures aimed at protecting the consumer when a contract is concluded via the phone, the Internet, by mail or other means of distance communication play a role in tourism. This book helps readers to navigate through uncertainties in travel contracts regarding information requirements, the right of withdrawal or providing alternative services. Findings reveal that consumer acquis is inadequately adapted to the features of the tourism industry when an optional instrument based on the Draft Common Frame of Reference might be used in the future.
Format: Electronic Resources
Competence-Based Innovation in Hospitality and Tourism. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:280242 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Pechlaner, Harald.
Call Number XX(280242.1)
Publication Date 2016
Format: Electronic Resources
Entrepreneurship in Hospitality and Tourism : a global perspective. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:280253 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Brookes, Maureen, author.
Call Number 647.94068 BRO
Publication Date 2015
Summary 'Entrepreneurship in Hospitality and Tourism: a global perspective' gives a new and definitive overview of the vital role and effective practice of entrepreneurship in one of the most dynamic industry sectors in the world. Efforts are being made to address the former through various mitigation and adaptation activities, but these may have consequences for biodiversity which are not identified or acknowledged. This book reviews how mitigation and adaptation measures in eight key areas: agriculture, forestry, energy, built environment, river and coastal flood management, health, tourism and leisure and conservation, identifying how they may impact positively or negatively on biodiversity. It also recognises the interactions which can occur between them and which may be neutral, synergistic or involve trade-offs. It shown how, by including biodiversity in mitigation and adaptation, co-benefits can be achieved and thus identifies cost-effective approaches to tackling climate change and biodiversity loss. This book will be of interest to researches in climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity and conservation, as well as policymakers involved in formulating adaptation and mitigation strategies and stakeholders engaged in their implementation.
Format: Electronic Resources
World Heritage Sites and Tourism : Global and Local Relations / edited by Laurent Bourdeau, Maria Garavari-Barbas, and Mike Robinson. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:270956 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Gravari-Barbas, Maria, editor.
Call Number 363.69 WOR
Publication Date 2016
Format: Electronic Resources
Cultural Tourism in Southern Africa. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:286235 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Manwa, Dr. Haretsebe.
Call Number 338.479168
Publication Date 2016
Summary This volume provides an overview of cultural tourism in southern Africa. Known variously as 'ecotourism', 'new tourism', etc., huge claims are made for it in terms of what it might offer in promoting national tourism development. Yet what does it mean to be an international tourist encountering the cultural, political and economic particularities of the South African experience? The authors explore the realities of this new morality of tourism in four tourist areas of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa: the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park; the Phinda Resource Reserve; Kosi Bay; and the Durban beachfront. For the first time they try to locate the international tourist within the moral maze of tourism in the new South Africa.
Format: Electronic Resources
Tourism and Natural Protected Areas. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:281385 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by SCHMITZ, M. This is the starting point for Heritage and Tourism . However, the 'dialogue' between visitors and heritage sites is complex. 'Visitors' have, for many decades, become synonymous with 'tourists' and the tourism industry and so the dialogic relationship between heritage place and tourists has produced a powerful critique of this often contested relationship. Explorers, whalers, seal hunters, scientists and others have left many material remains in the Polar Regions that are significant because they tell the history of the exploration and exploitation of these regions. Contemporary polar tourism represents a new phase in this exploration and exploitation of the Polar Regions. The potential for the transformation of historic sites has increased following the substantial expansion of polar tourism in recent decades. Key cultural heritage sites are regularly included in standard tourist itineraries and are also the subject of specialized tourism. In this context, the central research question of this thesis is: What are the effects of tourism on polar historic sites, and what are the implications of this for the management of tourism and these historic sites?.
Format: Electronic Resources
Volunteer Tourism [electronic resource] : Theoretical Frameworks and Practical Applications ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:33056 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Benson, Angela M.
Call Number 361.37
Publication Date 2010
Summary Volunteer Tourism is one of the major growth areas in contemporary tourism, where tourists for various reasons seek alternative goodwill experiences and activities. An extensive literature review describes 40+ years of research on the effectiveness of tourism advertising and the slow advancement to using valid impact metrics field experiments with alternative ad treatment and placements. Several authors undertake information-usefulness audits on DMO (destination management office) websites and provide practical check lists. Tourism website comparisons include: Maine, Massachusetts and New York; Genoa, Marseilles and Valencia; France, Spain and Portugal; and China, Poland, Russia and Thailand, against each other as well as the Lonely Planet websites. Content analysis of consumer-generated advertisements that promote visits to third places, in this case Starbucks coffee shops and Chipotle restaurants, makes an intriguing study. The final paper gives a thick description of the dynamics of the governments role in shaping Chinas domestic, inbound, and outbound tourism industry and contributes to building a behavioral theory of government-firm relationships.
Format: Electronic Resources
The discovery of tourism [electronic resource] / Stephen L.J. Global environmental change, including climate change; increasing fuel prices; and growing criticism from environmental and social interest groups are posing substantial challenges to the belief that international tourism can be sustainable at current rates and patterns of growth. This book therefore aims to answer the questions of if and how tourism can be a sustainable industry. The book concludes that sustainable tourism is possible but that it requires fundamental shifts in operations, systems and philosophies. The various contributions identify a number of means by which this can be accomplished but stress that sustainable tourism still has a long way to travel before it can reach its destination.
Format: Electronic Resources
Hospitality and Tourism 2015 [electronic resource] : Proceedings of HTC 2015 (Malacca, Malaysia, 2-3 November 2015) ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:157041 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Jamal, Salamiah A.
Call Number XX(157041.1)
Publication Date 2015
Format: Electronic Resources
Strategies for Sustainable Tourism at the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, China [electronic resource]. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:157389 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Demas, Martha.
Call Number 338.479151
Publication Date 2014
Summary At the Mogao Grottoes, a World Heritage site near Dunhuang city in Gansu Province, visitor numbers have increased inexorably since 1979 when the site opened. The early enthusiasm of the 2000s has slightly subsided today, however, though many of the underlying assumptions relating to the importance of intangible assets are still valid. As such, it is much more appropriate today to discuss issues related to IC as 'images of intellectual capital' rather than 'rules'. Intellectual capital explains a plethora of phenomena in today's business organisations, and this book takes a post-modern approach to the issue of IC and offers a selection of different perspectives. They include analyses of intellectual capital in education, business, and in the public sector. The chapters collected here are authored by university professors, business practitioners and students, and investigate such issues as the relative importance of intellectual capital components to tangible components of a company's value, the impact of ICT on IC, the measurement methods for IC, and different forms of communication for the disclosure of IC.
Format: Electronic Resources
Advances in Business and Management. It concluded that recent trends in ecosystem change threatened human wellbeing due to declining ecosystem services. This bleak prophecy has galvanized conservation organizations, ecologists, and economists to work toward rigorous valuations of ecosystem services at a spatial scale and with a resolution that can inform public policy. The editors have assembled the world's leading scientists in the fields of conservation, policy analysis, and resource economics to provide the most intensive and best technical analyses of ecosystem services to date. A key idea that guides the science is that the modelling and valuation approaches being developed should use data that are readily available around the world. In addition, the book documents a toolbox of ecosystem service mapping, modeling, and valuation models that both The Nature Conservancy and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) are beginning to apply around the world as they transform conservation from a biodiversity only to a people and ecosystem services agenda. The core aim of this study is to examine the impact of the unique working and living environment of cruise ships towards the physical and emotional exhaustion of their crews. In order to explain these, the study investigates traditional theories of Maslow and Herzberg, considers real life experiences of current and former crew members and takes a look on the most common statements of work-life balance. Although a lot of research work has been done in this field there seems to be a need to extend those to seafarers. In this paper a quantitative research approach has been used to expose knowledge about which factors influence, and to what extent they influence seafarers' well-being in terms of the balance between work and life. 171 current and former crew members participated at an online questionnaire and four additional interviews have been conducted. Significant results were found throughout the study and its results indicated that even though some recreation facilities regulated by ILO, and provided by the cruise companies do already exist, there is a high need to continue developing practices to positively influence the relief of stress in order to ensure a balanced relationship between work and life at sea. Moreover, it is expected that tourism will be one of the industries that will be most affected by the current recession. The long-term success of tourism services in such a fierce competitive and financially difficult environment depends not only on being able to satisfy customers' needs and desires, but to strategically respond to current global challenges. Therefore, strategic marketing becomes a necessary practice in contemporary tourism services firms. Strategic Marketing in Tourism Services focuses on marketing strategies implemented in tourism services firms and includes a collection of papers related to specific marketing strategies. The book presents the application of specific marketing strategies such as experiential marketing, branding, target marketing, relationship marketing and e-marketing in tourism. Furthermore, it presents the strategic responses of each tourism sub-sector - hospitality, air transport, tour operation, travel agencies and the tourism destinations - from various countries around the world.
Format: Electronic Resources
Tourism in the Muslim world [electronic resource] / [edited by] Noel Scott, Jafar Jafari. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:246071 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Scott, Noel, 1958-
Call Number 338.4791091767 22
Publication Date 2010
Summary "Tourism in the Muslim World provides a synthesis of thought on an influential current issue for tourism and indeed for our times, and a point of focus for tourism researchers, managers and developers in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Maldives and Turkey, as well as the Western world, eager to increase their share in this 1.5 billion strong tourist market. This question evolves and is vindicated in an era that is subjected to globalisation and increasingly r
Format: Electronic Resources
Cultural Heritage and Tourism in the Developing World [electronic resource] : A Regional Perspective ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:32577 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Timothy, Dallen J.
Call Number 338.4791091724
Publication Date 2009
Summary Cultural Heritage and Tourism in the Developing World is the first book of its kind to synthesize global and regional issues, challenges, and practices related to cultural heritage and tourism, specifically in less-developed nations. The importance of preservation and management of cultural heritage has been realized as an increasing number of tourists are visiting heritage attractions. Although many of the issues and challenges developing countries face in terms of heritage management are quite different from those in the developed world, there is a lack of consolidated research on this important subject. This seminal book tackles the issues through theoretical discourse, ideas and problems that underlay heritage tourism in terms of conservation, management, economics and underdevelopment, politics and power, resource utilization, colonialism, and various other antecedent notions that have shaped the development of heritage tourism in the less-developed regions of the world. The book is comprised of two sections. The first section highlights the broader conceptual underpinnings, debates, and paradigms in the realm of heritage tourism in developing regions. The chapters of this section examine heritage resources and the tourism product; protecting heritage relics, places and traditions; politics of heritage; and the impacts of heritage tourism. The second section examines heritage tourism issues in specific regions, including the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Caribbean, China and Northeast Asia, South-East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and Latin America. Each region has unique histories, cultures, political traditions, heritages, issues and problems, and the way these issues are tackled vary from place to place. This volume develops frameworks that are useful tools for heritage managers, planners and policy-makers, researchers, and students in understanding the complexity of cultural heritage and tourism in the developing world. Unlike many other books written about developing regions, this book provides insiders' perspectives, as most of the empirical chapters are authored by the individuals who live or have lived in the various regions and have a greater understanding of the region's culture, history, and operational frameworks in the realm of cultural heritage. The richness of this 'indigenous' or expert knowledge comes through as each regional overview elucidates the primary challenges and opportunities facing heritage and tourism managers in the less affluent areas of the world.
Format: Electronic Resources
Click here to view book http://angliss.eblib.com.au/patron/FullRecord.aspx?p=431802
The Routledge handbook of sustainable food and gastronomy / edited by Philip Sloan, Willy Legrand and Clare Hindley. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:154110 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Sloan, Philip, editor.
Call Number 338.190286 SLO
Publication Date 2015
Format: Books
Social media marketing in tourism and hospitality [electronic resource] / Roberta Minazzi. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:157385 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Minazzi, Roberta.
Call Number 338.4791 MIN
Publication Date 2014
Summary This book describes ongoing developments in social media within the tourism and hospitality sector, highlighting impacts on both the demand and the supply side. A truly international guide, this text is ideal for those studying and conducting case study research in tourism, hospitality and leisure disciplines. It provides a comprehensive and practical account of how to describe, explain and predict both individual and group case behavior, at the same time explaining behavior among a set of cases relevant to a specific context. This guide embraces and extends Herbert Simon's (Nobel Prize in Economics recipient) insight that a decision results from the conjoining two antecedents in human behavior: cognitive processing of an individual or group and a given context or problem framing. Divided into six parts, this guide includes chapters on: analysis of texts; how-to-do executive interviews; field interviewing in international contexts; stakeholder participatory research; researching indigenous and marginal peoples; and cross-case analysis. The chapters increase skills and understanding of culture, tourism, and hospitality behavior through analysis of the four principle objectives of case study research: accomplishing accuracy; achieving generality; reporting complexity and broad coverage; and achieving impact for improving the individual condition, client, and/or society.
Format: Electronic Resources
The World Meets Asian Tourists. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:270939 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z 2024-05-13T05:12:01Z by Wu, Mao-Ying.
Call Number 338.4791
Publication Date 2016
Summary The movement of Asian citizens across continents now occurs on an unprecedented scale. R.
Call Number 658.8658.812
Publication Date 2013
Summary This book is very useful for it is not just 'descriptive' in its nature, but 'prescriptive', too. It is descriptive in the sense that it describes the process of developing or using a metric in a problem situation, and prescriptive as it clearly prescribes how a beginner can put the theory into practice. In this globalized economy, maintaining quality of products and services has been the thrust area of interest among academicians and practitioners. Today, there are quite a good number of books and research articles available. Nevertheless, service quality measurement has always posed problems, particularly in the context of service industries due to the difficulty in the measurement of the intangibles and implied needs of the customers. The research literature is filled with articles on how to quantify the services, and there are several streams of arguments on the choice of the most ideal approach. However, the research gap lies in the answer to the question: 'Do these measurement instruments concur in their measurement outcomes or do they give different results in the same situation?' This book primarily makes an attempt to answer this question through a case study approach. Even though, there are several instruments for the measurement of service quality, the two most widely used instruments are SERVQUAL and SERVPERF metrics. Comprehensively, this book explains the systematic procedure of using both, the instruments in a service sector, and further, the procedure for conducting a statistical analysis so that one will be able to apply the same in any service sector. It then takes the reader through a series of tests in order to compare the two metrics, and to prove statistically if there is the same outcome in a problem situation. The results are sure to surprise the reader, and trigger the "research bent of mind" to undertake a similar study of such metrics and gain mastery over performing an independent research with very minimal guidance from a professional guide. To conclude, this book is sure to provide adequate inputs for a service quality researcher, and answer various questions wriggling in the mind of a beginner of service quality research such as: How shall I start with service quality measurement? How to collect data? How to select a sample? How to conduct a literature review? How to analyse the data? What research methodology is applicable? How to build hypothesis on my research? How to use statistical procedures? How to present the findings? How to draw implications from the study results? Biographische Informationen Lewlyn L.R.
