In the last five decades, the role and importance of quantitative research in tourism has been well understood because of the emerging need for methodological evidence related to theoretical assumptions. Furthermore, the inter-disciplinary characteristics of tourism management enabled tourism researchers to undertake more collective studies with researchers from other disciplines (such as economics, psychology, sociology and biology). With its growing scope of research and complex characteristics, tourism management has become therefore an attractive research field for all researchers.
Format: Electronic Resources
Click here to view book http://angliss.eblib.com.au/patron/FullRecord.aspx?p=862132
Tourism Supply Chain Management [electronic resource]. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:33859 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Song, Haiyan.
Call Number 910.687
Publication Date 2011
Summary Fierce global competition in the tourism industry is now focused on integral parts of supply chains rather than on individual firms. Tourism is also an area that needs much more work in terms of assessing impacts as well as developing indicators for gauging progress in the long term. All three areas are an integrated discipline and most programs throughout the developed world are housed co-jointly. There are several researchers across the globe who are conducting innovative work in these areas. Academic researchers, preservationists, and other interested parties face a range of challenges for the preservation of the material past as rapid economic and social changes continue in China. On the one hand, state-supported development policies often threaten and in some cases lead to the destruction of archeological and cultural sites. Yet state cultural policies also encourage the cultivation of precisely such sites as tourism development resources. This monograph aims to bring the concepts of world heritage sites, national tourism policies, ethnic tourism, and museum display together for a general cultural heritage audience. It focuses on a central issue: the tensions between a wide range of interest groups: cultural anthropologists and archeologists, tourism officials, heritage proponents, economic development proponents, a new class of private rich with the means to buy artifacts, and a fragmented regulatory system. Behind all of them lies the political role of heritage in China, also addressed in this monograph.
Format: Electronic Resources
Click here to view book http://angliss.eblib.com.au/patron/FullRecord.aspx?p=1082035
Food and beverage management : for the hospitality, tourism and event industries / John Cousins [and 3 others]. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:280254 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Cousins, John, author.
Call Number 647.95068 COU
Publication Date 2016
Summary This fourth edition of the best selling textbook Food & Beverage Management has been updated and revised to take account of current trends within these industries.
Format: Electronic Resources
Event Stakeholders : Theory and Methods for Event Management and Tourism / Mathilda van Niekerk and Donald Getz. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:289515 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Van Niekerk, Mathilda, 1972- 1972-, author.
Call Number 394.2068 VAN
Publication Date 2019
Summary Focuses on stakeholder theory applied to event management and goes beyond traditional approaches by treating event management as an applied field. Undoubtedly, it has to do with developing tourism resources, infrastructure, products and attractions, but it is also about a society, polity and economy meeting the challenges of globalization, the new millennium, and nation-building. This volume deals with those issues from different perspectives and through the case of Singapore, a city-state highly integrated into the global economy. It addresses specific areas like tourism manpower, theme parks and beaches, as well as the broader issues of economic strategy, political economy, and culture. Collectively, the articles in the book should provide readers with a sense of where Singapore has gone and where it is in terms of tourism management and policy.
Format: Electronic Resources
International Perspectives on Destination Management and Tourist Experiences : Insights from the International Competence Network of Tourism Research and Education (ICNT). ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:281402 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Lück, Michael.
Call Number 910.68
Publication Date 2016
Summary The overall objective of this volume has been to increase the understanding of challenges in how tourism is understood and worked within different countries around the world, with a focus on the management of tourism destinations and tourist experiences.
Format: Electronic Resources
Risk, crisis, and disaster management in small and medium-sized tourism enterprises / [edited by] Diego R. Lu Conners wonders why she would want to. Home to her conjures up memories of a poverty stricken childhood on a dirt-farm in Florida, the death of her mother, an embittered and closed-off father, and the cutting slights of being called racial slurs. Was it any wonder that when she won a scholarship for college in the north she never looked back? Now with teenaged children, a successful career and a business-owner husband, the last thing she wants to do is attend to her newly deceased father's affairs. Neither is she anxious to deal with her hostile brother or face those figures from her childhood who could feel nothing but betrayal after her long absence. The journey home unexpectedly becomes more than a facing of bad memories. To her surprise she finds it to be a journey of renewal as secrets are revealed, sacrifices are discovered, and a newfound pride in her family and roots is instilled to be treasured and passed down to the next generation.
Format: Electronic Resources
Institutional Theory in Tourism and Hospitality. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:298784 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Earl, Anna, author.
Call Number 302.35 EAR
Publication Date 2021
Format: Electronic Resources
Handbook of LGBT Tourism and Hospitality : A Guide for Business Practice / Jeff Guaracino, Ed Salvato. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:284930 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Guaracino, Jeff, author.
Call Number 306.766 GUA
Publication Date 2017
Format: Electronic Resources
How to travel free as an international tour director / by G.E. In that time, five more drugs from this class, atorvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastatin, rosuvastatin and simvastatin, have been approved by the FDA. Statins, among the top ten most commonly prescribed drugs in the U.S., are now recommended as first-line treatments by all major regulatory agencies in the U.S. and elsewhere. As shown in numerous clinical trials, statins are extremely powerful and effective in reducing LDL cholesterol, accompanied by a significant reduction of cardiac events and strokes. As a class, they are well-tolerated by most patients and are easy to administer. However, the withdrawal of cerivastatin (Baycol) from the market in 2001 due to severe myopathy in some patients, has led to increased concern among clinicians with respect to this and other side effects, such as liver and kidney disease. Some studies suggest that this has led to increased reluctance among clinicians to initiate a statin drug regimen or to adjust dosage to increase therapeutic effect. While a small minority of patients do develop serious complications while on statin therapy, current clinical evidence strongly suggests that the benefits of timely statin administration significantly outweigh the risks. Oxford American Pocket Notes: Statin Prescribing Guide aims to provide clinicians with concise, easily accessible guidance on prescribing statins in various clinical settings. This volume features evidence-based discussion on the indications, pharmacokinetics and safety profiles of the available statins and how these properties translate into selection of the appropriate treatment regimen for the individual patient. Useful tools, such as treatment algorithms, charts, tables and illustrations greatly help enhance the value of this volume as a portable reference tool.
Format: Electronic Resources
How to start a tour guiding business : a "how-to" manual for the thousands of people who want to discover the world of travel as a career / by G.E. Crowds threatened to spoil natural environments and make daily life unbearable for residents of popular travel destinations. Then, seemingly overnight, tourism nearly ceased. Yet there is no question that travel will resume; the only question is, when it does, what will it look like? Will we return to a world of overrun monuments, littered beaches, and gridlocked city streets? Or can we do things differently this time? Overtourism: Lessons for a Better Future charts a path toward tourism that is truly sustainable, focusing on the triple bottom line of people, planet, and prosperity. Bringing together tourism officials, city council members, travel journalists, consultants, scholars, and trade association members, this practical book explores overcrowding from a variety of perspectives. After examining the causes and effects of overtourism, it turns to management approaches in five distinct types of tourism destinations: 1. historic cities; 2. national parks and protected areas; 3. World Heritage Sites; 4. beaches and coastal communities; and 5. destinations governed by regional and national authorities. While each location presents its own challenges, common mitigation strategies are emerging. Visitor education, traffic planning, and redirection to lesser-known sites are among the measures that can protect the economic benefit of tourism without overwhelming local communities. As tourism revives around the world, these innovations will guide government agencies, parks officials, site managers, civic groups, environmental NGOs, tourism operators, and others with a stake in protecting our most iconic places."--Publisher description.
Format: Electronic Resources
Tourism As a Resource-Based Industry : Based on the Work of Sondre Svalastog. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:307164 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Svalastog, Anna Lydia.
Call Number 338.4791481
Publication Date 2022
Summary Based on Norwegian scholar Sondre Svalastog's work, this book promotes research-based knowledge for the tourism industry, considering social, cultural and natural resources, as well as the importance of local conditions. Does everyone agree on a definition? And does that definition hold when considering literary production in other times and places? Sex before Sex makes clear that we cannot simply transfer our contemporary notions of what constitutes a sex act into the past and expect them to be true for the people who were then reading literature and watching plays. The contributors confront how our current critical assumptions about definitions of sex restrict our understanding of representations of sexuality in early modern England. Drawing attention to overlooked forms of sexual activity in early modern culture, from anilingus and interspecies sex to "chin-chucking" and convivial drinking, Sex before Sex offers a multifaceted view of what sex looked like before the term entered history. Through incisive interpretations of a wide range of literary texts, including Romeo and Juliet, The Comedy of Errors, Paradise Lost, the figure of Lucretia, and pornographic poetry, this collection queries what might constitute sex in the absence of a widely accepted definition and how a historicized concept of sex affects the kinds of arguments that can be made about early modern sexualities.Contributors: Holly Dugan, George Washington U; Will Fisher, CUNY-Lehman College; Stephen Guy-Bray, U of British Columbia; Melissa J. To generate long-term growth, countries with tourism-based economies must develop strategies for employing their comparative advantages to achieve competitive advantages. However, competitiveness in the tourist industry is multi-dimensional and complex. This study evaluates the competitiveness of the Taiwanese tourism sector by a multi-dimensional framework. The theoretical model proposes that the competitiveness of tourist destinations should be composed of Ricardian comparative advantages (like the conditions of natural endowments and the degree of technological change); Porterian competitive advantages; tourism management, i.e., providing high quality education and job training, public goods, support services and reduced transaction costs to enhance comparative and competitive advantages; and environmental conditions.
Format: Electronic Resources
Click here to view book http://angliss.eblib.com.au/patron/FullRecord.aspx?p=371574
Tourism economics and policy [electronic resource] / Larry Dwyer, Peter Forsyth, and Wayne Dwyer. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:155201 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Dwyer, Larry, 1947-
Call Number 338.4791 DWY
Publication Date 2010
Summary Tourism Economics and Policy combines a comprehensive treatment of economic concepts and applications in tourism contexts. Experience management is seen as the way to remain competitive in markets where globalisation and technology have turned products and services into commodities. This book draws together academic and practitioner insights into the consumer experience by combining the perspectives of the tourist consumer with that of experience managers, supported by examples from tourism, leisure, hospitality, sport and event contexts. With contributions from established and emerging international scholars, it is organised into three sections: understanding experiences, researching experiences and managing experiences. Moreover, contracts for passenger transport services and contracts for the provision of accommodation, car rental, catering or leisure services if the contract provides for a specific date or period of performance are not covered by some of these rules. Yet measures aimed at protecting the consumer when a contract is concluded via the phone, the Internet, by mail or other means of distance communication play a role in tourism. This book helps readers to navigate through uncertainties in travel contracts regarding information requirements, the right of withdrawal or providing alternative services. Findings reveal that consumer acquis is inadequately adapted to the features of the tourism industry when an optional instrument based on the Draft Common Frame of Reference might be used in the future.
Format: Electronic Resources
Green Events and Green Tourism : An International Guide to Good Practice / edited by Hugues Seraphin and Emma Nolan. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:288419 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Seraphin, Hugues, editor.
Call Number 658.456 SER
Publication Date 2018
Format: Electronic Resources
Tourists in historic towns : urban conservation and heritage management / Aylin Orbasli. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:221948 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Orbasli, Aylin, 1968-
Call Number 338.4791 21
Publication Date 2000
Summary "This book examines the relationship between culture, heritage, conservation and tourism development in historic towns and urban centres. The rationale for the e-book is that the private sector and academia must work together in identifying the root causes for key problems and then find practical solutions. Often it is the public sector that leads this process, but it was felt that the private sector and academia should become proactive in finding practical solutions.
Format: Electronic Resources
The study of food, tourism, hospitality, and events : 21st-century approaches / Sue Beeton, Alison Morrison, editors. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:288733 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Beeton, Sue, editor.
Call Number 647.940711 STU
Publication Date 2019
Format: Electronic Resources
Issues in Hospitality, Travel, and Tourism [electronic resource]. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:156246 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Acton, Q. Within the African context, Botswana is renowned for its abundance of cultural heritage and appeal to tourists. The collection reconciles the growing demand to commodify cultural heritages, the quest for cultural heritage preservation and management, and the focus on sustainable tourism development in Botswana. As such, the book is an appraisal of, and meditation on, the business-side of cultural heritage management and the value that cultural heritage resources have at a personal, local and national level. It is an exploration of the nature of Botswana's cultural heritage, the politics and policies that underpin that heritage, the development of cultural heritage tourism as a sustainable business, the country's cultural heritage experiences and products, and a confrontation of the hard questions about cultural heritage and the future. As an introductory text, the book gives tourists, tourism students and academics, as well as tourism entrepreneurs, policymakers, and practitioners a basis on which to make decisions.
Format: Electronic Resources
Tourism planning and destination marketing / edited by Mark Anthony Camilleri. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:293025 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Camilleri, Mark Anthony, 1976- author.
Call Number 910.688 23
Publication Date 2019
Summary Destination marketing relies on planning, organisation, and successful strategies and tactics.℗ Tourism Planning and Destination Marketing℗ provides an in-depth understanding of the tourism marketing environment, including destination branding, distribution channels, etourism, digital media, and sustainable and responsible tourism practices. Efforts are being made to address the former through various mitigation and adaptation activities, but these may have consequences for biodiversity which are not identified or acknowledged. This book reviews how mitigation and adaptation measures in eight key areas: agriculture, forestry, energy, built environment, river and coastal flood management, health, tourism and leisure and conservation, identifying how they may impact positively or negatively on biodiversity. It also recognises the interactions which can occur between them and which may be neutral, synergistic or involve trade-offs. It shown how, by including biodiversity in mitigation and adaptation, co-benefits can be achieved and thus identifies cost-effective approaches to tackling climate change and biodiversity loss. This book will be of interest to researches in climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity and conservation, as well as policymakers involved in formulating adaptation and mitigation strategies and stakeholders engaged in their implementation.
Format: Electronic Resources
Tourism and hospitality education and training in the Caribbean / edited by Chandana Jayawardena ; with a foreward by Rex V. Known variously as 'ecotourism', 'new tourism', etc., huge claims are made for it in terms of what it might offer in promoting national tourism development. Yet what does it mean to be an international tourist encountering the cultural, political and economic particularities of the South African experience? The authors explore the realities of this new morality of tourism in four tourist areas of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa: the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park; the Phinda Resource Reserve; Kosi Bay; and the Durban beachfront. For the first time they try to locate the international tourist within the moral maze of tourism in the new South Africa.
Format: Electronic Resources
Tourism and Natural Protected Areas. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:281385 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by SCHMITZ, M. This is a welcome development and represents a challenge for tourism management, for environmental education and for dissemination of nature and conservation. It is critical that DMOs and CEOs communicate the right message in such circumstances to reassure the public that they have their best interests at heart. Often this is not done well. Every crisis and disaster is different, and knowledge is required to understand how different crises and disasters, whether they be at a destination or an organisational level, affect members of the public. Such insight will provide managers with a clearer understanding of the most effective messaging and communication strategies post event. 'Reputation and Image Recovery for the Tourism Industry' uses real life cases studies to contextualise the relevant theories on tourism, marketing and communication, and unpacks examples of best practice to illustrate how carefully managed response strategies can ensure the organisation's future survival. Packed with international case studies, and with contributions from experts, this edited book is divided into three sections that cover: * Natural Disasters: including cyclones/hurricanes; flooding; earthquakes, volcanos and tsunamis; bush/forest fires and other severe natural events. * Man Made Crises and Organisational Crises: including specific case studies that focus on how destinations restore their reputation following a random act of crime or terror; managing the threat of terrorism- a destination image perspective; managing destination image in the midst of political turmoil and reputation recovery for destinations with long term image issues. * Organisational Crises in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry: including reputation recovery for various tourism organisations including airlines, hotels and theme parks; managing the media in times of organisational crises; best practice public relations strategies for tourism organisations and the role of social media in organisational reputation recovery. Essential reading for students, researchers and industry managers, and the 'go to' text for those wishing to learn about specific strategies and best practice techniques proven to assist with the reputational management of destinations and organisations affected by crises and disasters.
Format: Electronic Resources
Indigenous People and Economic Development : An International Perspective. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:211056 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Iankova, Katia.
Call Number XX(211056.1)
Publication Date 2016
Format: Electronic Resources
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Analysis in Tourism [electronic resource] : A Critical Review of Applications and Implications ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:157766 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Filimonau, Viachaslau.
Call Number 621.042
Publication Date 2015
Format: Electronic Resources
Handbook Event Market China. ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:299038 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Schwägermann, Helmut.
Call Number 394.20951
Publication Date 2015
Format: Electronic Resources
Information communication technologies and sustainable tourism [electronic resource] / Alisha Ali and Andrew J. 'Visitors' have, for many decades, become synonymous with 'tourists' and the tourism industry and so the dialogic relationship between heritage place and tourists has produced a powerful critique of this often contested relationship. Explorers, whalers, seal hunters, scientists and others have left many material remains in the Polar Regions that are significant because they tell the history of the exploration and exploitation of these regions. Contemporary polar tourism represents a new phase in this exploration and exploitation of the Polar Regions. The potential for the transformation of historic sites has increased following the substantial expansion of polar tourism in recent decades. Key cultural heritage sites are regularly included in standard tourist itineraries and are also the subject of specialized tourism. In this context, the central research question of this thesis is: What are the effects of tourism on polar historic sites, and what are the implications of this for the management of tourism and these historic sites?.
Format: Electronic Resources
Volunteer Tourism [electronic resource] : Theoretical Frameworks and Practical Applications ent://SD_ILS/0/SD_ILS:33056 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z 2024-05-15T23:26:29Z by Benson, Angela M.
Call Number 361.37
Publication Date 2010
Summary Volunteer Tourism is one of the major growth areas in contemporary tourism, where tourists for various reasons seek alternative goodwill experiences and activities.
